FPSO Firenze was earlier deployed in the Aquila offshore field of Adriatic Sea southern Italy. Since the Aquila field is approaching its end of life, the FPSO Firenze will be redeployed to the Baleine offshore in the Ivory Coast after refurbishment works.

REI Process received a contract award from Saipem, the EPC contractor for the FPSO Firenze redeployment, to design & manufacture the new Dewpoint Control System.

The Refrigeration Package will be installed on the open deck topside of FPSO Firenze as part of the Dewpoint Control Unit – to reduce the water & hydrocarbon dewpoint of the treated dry natural gas from upstream Gas Dehydration Unit and to remove the heavy hydrocarbons (C4+) from the Fuel Gas supply line to GTG’s. The Dewpoint Control Unit is designed to achieve a water dewpoint of -10 °C and hydrocarbon dewpoint of 0 °C at 45 bar(a).

The Dewpoint Control Unit including the Refrigeration package is of a three-deck skid design with the first deck comprised of two refrigerant compressors with a common lube oil system; the second deck to accommodate the horizontal pressure vessels i.e. refrigerant receiver, suction drum and gas chillers; the top most deck is for the refrigerant condenser which is an air-cooled heat exchanger. This arrangement delivers about 850kW refrigeration duty at evaporating temperature (-8 °C) and condensing temperature (+43°C) using R134A refrigerant.

REI has designed the system for continuous operation in a salty, corrosive, high temperature and high humidity environment that is suitable for FPSO steel deck module -withstanding ship motions.
